Victor Smith Obituary

Victor T. Smith of Palm Coast, Florida,   formerly of Waterbury and New London, CT, the son of Valerie Mason of Brooklyn, NY, formerly of Waterbury,  and Victor R. Smith of New London, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 36 at his home on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Victor was born on March 5, 1988 Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida earning his Juris Doctorate in 2012.  He was an Associate Attorney in Construction Law Litigation at the Robertson Firm in St. Augustine, Florida.

Victor was born to be an advocate. At a noticeably young age, Victor displayed qualities of empathy and compassion of an adult.  He was given the nickname, The Governor. He was a peacemaker and someone who could see potential in everyone he met and was always willing to offer a hand up instead of a handout. He knew that the latter would only provide temporary help. One of his favorite quotes by Denzel Washington was “Don’t aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference” and that is how he lived his life. Although our hearts are broken and the question of “why” may never go way, we are grateful in knowing that in Victor’s short life he touched so many lives.

Victor enjoyed sports and played on various baseball, basketball and football teams.  In 2009 Victor travelled abroad to study in England while attending Gettysburg College which started him traveling to many places, including Ireland, Amsterdam, and several states, within the US of A.

In addition to his parents, Victor is survived by his sister, Victoria Stackhouse of Portsmouth, VA, his paternal grandmother, Jean Smith and aunt, Victoria Smith of New Milford, CT, Great uncle, Rudolph Smith of New York, NY, his maternal grandmother, Ellen Kidd, Aunts Kimberly (Wille) Nowell, Phyllis Mason and Nelcie Mason of Waterbury, , Uncles Nelson(Nicole)  Mason III of Maricopa, Arizona and Derek Mason of Waterbury.  Victor had an especially close relationship with his cousins, Aaron (Brianna) Nowell, Willie Nowell, Jr., Ryan Laliberte, Alexander Mason and Kyle Mason. He is also survived by numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.  Victor was so happy to announce that he officially became an uncle in June 2024 to ChrisTienne Eziyah Stackhouse.  Victor was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Randolph Smith and Nelson Mason.

Victor met several young men while attending Taft who became lifelong friends. He was honored to officiate the wedding of his friend/brother, Will Cooper, and was the best man for Red Sammons.

Victor was such a major source of joy and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10 am at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London, CT  06320 followed by internment at Ceder Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5pm to 7 pm.
