Richard Lawrence Mugovero

Richard Lawrence “Dick” Mugovero, 90, of Waterford, entered eternal life on June 30, 2025. Born on July 21, 1934, in New London, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Sullivan) Mugovero.

Dick was educated in New London and attended the former Bulkeley High School for three years before it transitioned into New London High School, where he graduated as part of the first graduating class in 1952. He went on to attend Franklin Technical Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned his degree and further developed his skills in automotive technology.

In October of 1952, Dick was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably with the First Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. After completing his service, he returned home to manage the family business, Mugovero’s Garage in New London—a role he took on with pride and dedication for many years.

In 1959, Dick met his loving wife, Judith “Judy” Allen. They were married on June 9, 1962, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church and shared 63 wonderful years together.

Dick was a passionate sportsman who especially enjoyed golf and football. He was a longtime member of the former New London Country Club in Waterford, where he served on the board of directors, and later became a member of the Great Neck Country Club. He was also a devoted football fan and a lifelong follower of the New England Patriots—rarely missing a game and proudly cheering on his team through every season.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his sons and their spouses, James and Sherry Mugovero of Melbourne, FL, and Michael and Tammy Mugovero of Waterford; along with his treasured granddaughters, Alyssa, Alexia, and Erica Mugovero.

In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his sister, Joan Savard.
