BERNARDO, SR.  Richard Paul Bernardo, Sr. 83 of New London, entered eternal life on April 26, 2026, at home. He was born March 16, 1943, in New London the son of the late James and Josephine (Palmetti) Bernardo. He was raised in New London attending local schools and graduated from Norwich Technical High School. He later enlisted in the CT Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Deborah Bergeson on Oct. 20, 1978, at Harkness Chapel, Debbie survives him. Richard owned and operated the R&B Apparel in New London for nearly fifty years. He was very involved in his son’s sporting teams, coaching Little League for the former New London Nationals and later at Waterford South Little League. SEC Youth Hockey League as scheduling and equipment manager, planning hockey tournaments in Canada and throughout CT. He was a former member of the Son’s of Italy, Knights of Columbus and Masons in New London. Besides his beloved wife Debbie, he is survived by four sons, Richard Bernardo, Jr. of Montville, James (Kay Ellen) Bernardo of Waterford, Robert (Mandie) Bernardo of Norwich, Christopher (Ashley) Bernardo, sr. of Waterford. Ten grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by two siblings, Leonard Bernardo and Angeline Spinnato. His family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial gathering on Saturday from 4 to 6pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment will be private.
