Uncasville - Liza Sitterly, 56, a gentle, loving soul of Uncasville, passed away April 22, 2025, after four years of courageously fighting multiple illnesses.
She had a love of all animals, especially horses. She owned several horses early in life, though Sprite, her favorite quarter horse, she owned for 25 years. She cared for her horses and competed on a national level for most of her young life.
Born Dec. 13, 1968, in Greenfield, Mass., she spent the last 30 years living locally in Connecticut.
A graduate of MacDuffie School in Springfield, Mass., Mitchell College and Quinnipiac University, she worked as a paralegal for several years.
A devoted and loving companion, Liza spent much of her time sharing common interests with her partner, Byron, through gardening, spending peaceful evenings watching the sunset and taking leisurely rides in the country. She was an avid movie goer, attended Broadway plays, and various concerts.
Liza will be deeply missed by her partner Byron Athenian; her father and his wife, Rod and Kathy Sitterly; her mother Nancy McMahon of Gardnerville, Nev.; her brother Nathan Sitterly and his family; and her many friends. She will also be missed by her cat Willy and dog Van.
There will be a private memorial gathering at a later date.
