Judith "Judy" Strutt Obituary

Judith K. Strutt
August 11, 1945 – November 10, 2025

Judith Kay Strutt, 80, wife of Charles E. Strutt, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, November 10th, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Judy spent her last days surrounded and embraced by her loving family.

Judy was born August 11, 1945 in New London, the daughter of Robert and Julia (Potkay) Cope. She grew up in New London and attended New London schools until the family moved to Quaker Hill in Judy’s senior year. Judy started attending Waterford High School in December of her senior year and graduated in 1963. Judy received her Associate’s Degree from Three Rivers Community College and Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut in 1995.

She married Charlie in 1972, and they were residents of Uncasville for 52 years. Judy held many positions over the years in the secretarial field, spending most of her career as Secretary of the Town of Montville Parks and Recreation Department.

Judy was known for her love of the holidays and beautifully decorated her home to reflect each, especially Christmas. The Strutt home was known for their colorful lights display, outlining their home each year. Family and friends were what mattered most to Judy.  Judy annually held a cookie party with her friends for over 50 years and hosted many holidays in her home. She loved to travel, her and Charlie traveled many states, countries and enjoyed many cruises over the years. They were blessed to bring family and friends on their travel adventures. Grammy was her favorite title, she never missed an event for her grandchildren, took them on many vacations and enjoyed family game time most. Most recently, she was excited to be a great-grandmother and enjoyed reading books to her great-granddaughter.

She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a member and officer of the Ladies Guild. She was a former member of the church choir. She served as secretary of the Kitemaug Water Association for over 50 years and was a volunteer of the Haitain Health Foundation in Norwich for over 20 years, even once traveling to Haiti, helping in the health clinic there.

Judy was the heart of her family – the person everyone turned to for guidance, kindness, and love. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 53 years, her daughter, Heather Reynolds and husband Steven; grandson, Zachary Belisle and wife Kiera; great-granddaughter Elise; granddaughter, Alexandria Hammoud and husband Aly; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; cherished daughter, Tara Lyn Nisson; brothers, Robert, Jr. and Michael Cope; and niece, Mary Cope.

Judy will forever be remembered for her kind heart and love of others, especially her family. The impact she has made in her community and as a role model will span generations. Her generosity of spirit and unwavering strength touched everyone she met, and her absence leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those who loved her.

Visitation will be Friday, 11/14, from 3-6pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. A mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 63 Old Norwich Road, Quaker Hill, will be held at 10am on Saturday, 11/15. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New London.

In lieu of flowers, and to honor Judy’s compassion for others, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Haitian Health Foundation, 97 Sherman Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
