New London - Joseph L. Nott Sr. of New London entered eternal life March 2, 2026, in the company of his loving family. He was born Feb. 29, 1936, in New London, the son of the late William and Bertha (Paulus) Nott.
He attended local schools in New London, enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Bette Jane Ficarra Sept. 14, 1957, in St. Joseph Church; Mrs. Nott survives him.
He was appointed as a substitute firefighter in 1958, and became fulltime in 1961. He was named Firefighter of the Year in 1972, promoted to lieutenant in 1988, and in October of 1997, was promoted to battalion chief and retiring in 2001.
He was a coach for the former American Little League in New London. Joe spent ten years of his life not only coaching the game of baseball, but also leading by example in teaching young boys the meaning of respect, loyalty and sportsmanship.
Joe was a proud Grampa and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. Whether watching them perform in their school plays or watching them on the ballfield or basketball court. And Joe was an avid Yankees and N.Y. Giants fan.
Besides his beloved wife Bette of nearly 69 years, he is survived by two children, Joseph and Deana Nott Jr. and Jo-Lynn McKinney and companion Scott Ignazio; a sister, Virginia Petri; six grandchildren: Robert and Christopher McKinney, Joseph Nott III, Madison Nott, Kassie Annello and Danielle Kobyluck: and ten great-grandchildren.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday March 4, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. Family and friends may gather for a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, in St. Mary Cemetery, 600 Jefferson Avenue, New London with military honors.
