SCHWEID: Jo-Ann Ellen Schweid, 78 of Waterford entered eternal life on Feb. 28, 2026. She was born May 8, 1947, in New London the daughter of the late Edmund and Nellie (Canestrari) Bonafede. She attended local schools and was the first child at Jennings school to be inoculated with the salk polio vaccine. She graduated from St. Bernard High School, cum laude in 1965. She graduated from New London Academy of Hairdressing in 1966. She was employed by Amello’s Salon and later at the Red Carpet retiring in 1976. She met and married Bernard Schweid on Nov. 2, 1974, and enjoyed 36 wonderful years together. Jo-Ann was truly devastated by Bernie’s passing on July 19, 2011. She was a member and past secretary and statistician of The OFD #4 Ladies Auxiliary, secretary and statistician for the Winthrop Ladies Bowling League. She worked at the voting polls for several years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, bingo and going to the casino. Her passion for cooking and entertaining gave her great pleasure. She was equally passionate for animals, especially cats and was avid supporter of several animal organizations and rights. Jo-Ann is survived by her cousins, Donna Rogers, Nancy Pally, Nicolette Capozza, Richard Jacques and Allan Jacques upon whom she relied on greatly. Donations in her memory to Ct Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Rd. Quaker Hill, CT 06375 or the donor’s choice of charity. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery will be private. The Impellitteri-Malia funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London has been entrusted with her care.
