Hugh John Shannon III

Shannon: Hugh John Shannon III, 86 of New London entered eternal life on Dec. 20, 2024, at home in the company of his loving family. He was born July 5, 1938, in New London the son of the late Hugh John and Eleanor (Berquist) Shannon, Jr. He attended local schools and graduated from New London High School. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and served the remaining duty in the Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to the former Vincenza “Vinnie” Santangelo on Oct. 15, 1960, in St Mary Star of the Sea Church, Mrs. Shannon survives him. Mr. Shannon was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in New London, retiring after 36 years. He was a devoted and loving husband and committed family man to his three children and later to all his grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish, life member of the Polish American Veteran’s Club and New London Lodge of Elks #360. He was an avid Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins fan, Green Bay Packers fan and the Fighting Irish of Note Dame. Besides his beloved wife Vinnie of 64 years, he is survived by his three children. Hugh John Shannon IV and fiancé Jody Kochanek, Kathleen and Jeffery Tiffany, Christine and John DeVito all of Waterford. Five grandchildren; Taylor and Colin Shannon, Olivia Tiffany, Emma and Ella DeVito.  His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble on Saturday (Dec. 28) at 9 am from the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, 149 Montauk Ave., New London.
