Edward Glynn Obituary

New London - Edward R. Glynn, 91, of New London, entered peacefully into eternal life July 6, 2025. He was born Nov. 14, 1933, in New London, the son of the late Fred and Josephine (Pizzo) Glynn.

He attended Harbor School and Bulkeley High School for three years and graduated in the very first class from New London High School in 1952. He was a great athlete in both basketball and baseball. In 1951, he won the CT State Championship and the New England Championship as a member of the Bulkeley High School basketball team and was honored with festivities in Boston and a parade in New London from the train station to Ocean Beach. In 1954, he set the record for the highest score ever in a single basketball game with 54 points in the City League at Ocean Beach. As a standout baseball player, he played second base and shortstop in the Morgan and Norwich Leagues, and once broke his ankle sliding into home base (safe). He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, but unfortunately never played professional ball, because he was simultaneously drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea till 1955. He later coached Little League in New London.

He was united in marriage to Patricia A. Glynn, Feb. 23, 1957, in St. Joseph Church.

Mr. Glynn worked in construction in his father's contracting business, the Fred L. Glynn Co. during the 50s, 60s and 70s and worked as a foreman and supervisor for Atlantic Builders in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s managing the North Frontage Road Hotel and adjacent office building.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish and would attend the Holy Family Retreat League in West Hartford annually. His lifelong devotion to his family and precious friends and neighbors and willingness to serve others was a blessing.

He is survived by three sons and their families: Daniel Glynn of East Lyme, daughter-in-law Carol, and grandchild Marisa; Dennis Glynn of Virginia, Tina Crute, and grandchildren, Kellie and Jessie; Edward (Jaime) Glynn of Oakdale, daughter-in-law Beth, and grandchildren, Brittney and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Millie, Georgia and Levi; his sister Christine Olson; and nieces and nephews: Robert Olson, Donna Andrews, David Olson and John Davis III. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Glynn; by his son, David Glynn; and his sister, Dorothy Glynn.

Family and precious friends and neighbors may gather at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, for a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, New London. Interment services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery immediately after. The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with his care. There are no calling hours.
