Christine Gaynor Sherman, 57, passed peacefully into heaven on February 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Christine was born on March 7th, 1968 in New London and graduated from New London High School in 1986. Her life was rich with meaningful work and wholehearted devotion to others. She poured herself into caring for those around her, living with compassion, strength, and a servant’s heart through every season of life. Above all, she was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and, most recently, a proud Grammy. She loved spending time with her family, making memories, and sharing laughter. She carried a lighthearted wit and an incredible sense of humor that remained with her until the veryend. From her marriage came her two greatest blessings, her children, William and Gemma Sherman. Becoming their mother was the joy of her life. She was overjoyed to become a grandmother, and from the moment Brody was born, her heart was forever his. Her love for him gave her strength and carried her through the last seven months with courage and determination.
She faced her illness with unwavering courage and perseverance, remaining steadfast in love and faith through every trial. Even in hardship, she continued to bring joy, warmth, and laughter to all who knew her.She was welcomed home into heaven by her father, Gerard J. Gaynor Jr.; her grandparents, Gemma and Gerard Gaynor Sr.; and Rose and Willis Stepp. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Ivanna Sherman, and her beloved grandson, Brody Decker Sherman; her daughter, Gemma Sherman, and her significant other Spencer Hoagland; her mother, Carole Gaynor; her sisters, Maureen (David) Annibalini and Teresa (George) Frankewicz; and her brother, Gerard J. Gaynor III (Dana Adams). She also leaves behind her nieces, Bailey, Danielle, Alyssa, and Quinn; her nephews, George, Cole, Caden, and Jace; and her great-niece and nephews, Hayden, CJ, Kashton, and Geo.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at DaVita Dialysis in New London for their continuous care and dedication, her transplant team at Yale New Haven Hospital, as well as the staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for their kindness and comfort in her final days.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Impelliteri-Malia Funeral Home on Friday, February 20, from 5–7 p.m. A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Saturday, February 21, at 9 a.m., followed by Christian burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
